My approach to music education would be similar to the way you would approach teaching someone a language. Start out building the vocabulary with technique exercises and some reading, freeing up limb independence and basic understanding of musical grammar. This opens up the ability to understand how to listen to other drummers and to imitate their performances. Combining all of these exercises over time gives the student the ability to communicate their own ideas more clearly in musical situations, and allows them to either create or interpret in their performances.
Oh...and I can't forget that I try to make it FUN as possible.
I at least try to share the fun and life music brings to me.
I offer a variety of private lesson options for drum set and percussion in the GTA. I teach out of my private studio in Western Toronto and offer both in-person and online options.* I have a fully functioning online teaching space fitted with high quality audio and video components. I have combined these components with my online Student Portal, and have created a space that provides the one-on-one interaction that I believe is necessary when learning an instrument, but also has the support materials one may need in-between scheduled lessons.

As mentioned, one of the advantages of learning with me is the online Student Portal built into this website. This section is available only to my students. There you can find all the materials that we cover in lessons, as well as corresponding demo videos, song transcriptions, and play-along tracks. It's a one stop shop for all the things you need for your drumming success!

I also offer percussion clinics for the Elementary and Secondary School levels. Whether it's an introduction to the percussion world, technique and reading, percussion ensemble coaching, drum set in a stage band, or prep for playing exams and upcoming concerts, I have a number of programs that have been road tested at schools in the GTHA. Most notably I have been the main percussion clinician for the University of Toronto Schools in downtown Toronto (both in-person and online) for the last 2 years.
I have also worked with such music education non-profits as An Instrument For Every Child in Hamilton, ON.
